Christmas is quickly approaching and many question my Christmas Spirit. So, I decided to write this post to clear a few things up. There are many events and festivities that occur during the holiday season, some of which aren't so pleasant...
1) I refuse to give money to the Salvation Army with their annoying bells and not so jolly collection buckets. Any money donated to the Salvation Army passes through the hands of gay bashing individuals. Even though the Salvation Army claims they don't discriminate against people of other orientations, they still help fuel the fire. For an organization that seems to only offer help to the needy during the holidays, they lobby against same sex marriage and most likely spend money that you willingly donate to fight against gay rights. Here's a quote directly from their website in 2003.
"Christians whose sexual orientation is primarily or exclusively same-sex are called upon to embrace celibacy as a way of life. There is no scriptural support for same-sex unions as equal to, or as an alternative to, heterosexual marriage." - Salvation Army USA Web site, Dec. 2003
"[Homosexual activity is] as rebellion against God's plan for the created order.... Homosexual practice, however, is, in the light of Scripture, clearly unacceptable. Such activity is chosen behaviour and is thus a matter of the will. It is therefore able to be directed or restrained in the same way heterosexual urges are controlled. Homosexual practice would render any person ineligible for full membership (soldiership) in the [Salvation] Army." - Salvation Army Australia Web site (emphasis added)
You can read more about them here. http://gay.americablog.com/2009/12/salvation-army-is-nasty-anti-gay.html
2) As many of you may know, I'm an Atheist and I don't really feel comfortable celebrating the birth of some random guy that brainwashed people into thinking he had magical powers. After all, they did find his body so he definitely didn't rise from the dead like the Bible claims. http://mideast.blogs.time.com/2007/02/23/jesus_tales_from_the_crypt/
Putting that aside, Jesus wasn't the great person that many Christians believe he was. In fact, the Bible itself says that Jesus would kill children created by adultery.
"Behold, I will cast her into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her into great tribulation, except they repent of their deeds. And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am he which searcheth the reins and hearts: and I will give unto every one of you according to your works." (Revelation 2:22-23)
In fact, the bible also shows absolutely zero respect for women either and God supports abortion. I really don't understand Christianity...
"But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God." (I Corinthians 11:3)
"Then ye shall bring them both out unto the gate of that city, and ye shall stone them with stones that they die; the damsel, because she cried not, being in the city; and the man, because he hath humbled his neighbour's wife: so thou shalt put away evil from among you." (Deuteronomy 22:24)
"Behold, here is my daughter a maiden, and his concubine; them I will bring out now, and humble ye them, and do with them what seemeth good unto you: but unto this man do not so vile a thing. But the men would not hearken to him: so the man took his concubine, and brought her forth unto them; and they knew her, and abused her all the night until the morning: and when the day began to spring, they let her go." (Judges 19:24-25)
Must I really continue? The last is definitely the worst. It's referring to a man letting his daughter be raped by a drunken mob.
"And when he hath made her drink the water, then it shall come to pass, that, if she be defiled, and have done trespass against her husband, that the water that causeth the curse shall enter into her, and become bitter, and her belly shall swell, and her thigh shall rot: and the woman shall be a curse among her people. And if the woman be not defiled, but be clean; then she shall be free, and shall conceive seed." (Numbers 5:27-28)
So, Jesus kills children, God supports killing/raping women and abortion...Thats just the tip of the iceberg. However, for brevity I'm going to end my rant here.
3) Christmas is the most materialistic day in our culture. I don't understand why we set a day aside to buy our friends and family lavish gifts. Christmas has turned into an excuse for retailers to make a fortune. I really wish people would spend money on more important things. Donate to a Charity (hint: not the Salvation Army) or do something that will make a difference in someone's life.
Other religions and terrorist groups hate the United States for having a culture is centered around possessions. I can't help thinking that massive amounts of Christmas shopping contribute to this. Tone it down a little. Buy a few nice gifts and donate to charity.
4) Santa Claus. Just another tradition that I totally don't understand. Why do we lie to our children and make them believe that some fat dude, dressed in red, breaks into their house to leave them gifts? If a sexual predator were to dress like Santa during the holidays, almost every child in America would be vulnerable. Obviously the idea of Santa wasn't thought through.
Maybe I am an offspring of the Grinch, but I really don't understand Christmas. I think there are better ways to spend our time and money.
